Ping Pong Gintonería welcomes violinist Abylay Nurlybek for The Odyssey, Book VIII, a solo recital taking place on November 27th, that brings Homer’s timeless epic into dialogue with music.

Abylay Nurlybek is an award winning musician whose training spans the Central Music School and Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory to his current studies at Hong Kong Baptist University. A laureate of international competitions, finalise in the XVII International Tchaikovsky Competition, Nurlybek brings a programme that reimagines Homer’s epic as a continuous musical journey.

Book VIII of the Odyssey describes a feast where the bard Demodocus sings of Troy, moving Odysseus to tears as memory and destiny converge. This recital takes inspiration from that moment, with the concert space becoming the gathering, the violin the bard’s voice, and the audience invited to step into Odysseus’ place — each listener encountering their own passage through sound and remembrance. Improvised transitions link each work, creating a continuous arc rather than a sequence of pieces.
